7 Days…in winter

Neil Leslie

Winter arrived in Dublin with an icy blast this week.  But as the temperatures plummet to zero we’ve got some tips to keep the winter chills at bay in the city during the next 7 days.

If you’re a visitor in the city this weekend you can take a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the capitals’ favourite current residents – the Sam Maguire.
As locals know the iconic trophy is presented every year to the GAA’s All-Ireland football champions.  In 2016 the ‘Dubs’ as they are known in the city won the Sam for the second year running.

Mostly the trophy spends the winter visiting the city’s GAA clubs but this Friday 25th November  it will be on display at Dublin’s greyhound racing stadium Shelbourne Park for one night only.
For just €10 at the door you can go and have your picture taken with the famous trophy – and the entire Dublin football team!  The evening is a fundraiser for the team holiday and is the best opportunity for fans and the curious visitor to get close to the ‘Boys in Blue’.

7 Days in Dublin was at the inaugural event last year and it’s a selfie and autograph hunter’s dream.    And you can enjoy a night’s great greyhound racing.  Doors open at 6pm and first race at 7.40pm http://www.igb.ie/go-greyhound-racing/our-stadiums/shelbourne-park-greyhound-stadium/plan-your-night/dubs-at-the-dogs/

With forecasts for below freezing in the coming week why not get some heat into your bones and discover Dublin’s only working distillery.  Teeling Distillery https://teelingdistillery.com/ in the heart of the city’s historic Liberties district https://teelingdistillery.com/where-we-are/ is one of the capital’s newest attractions.  Be a part of the new Irish whiskey boom sweeping the streets and after a tasting you’ll be feeling no cold and no pain.
